Manual Author and Editor
Behavioral Health Aide Manual (BHAM)
In Alaska Native villages, Behavioral Health Aides are front-lines mental health providers who help to address individual and community-based behavioral health needs. The BHAM covers topics such as the background of behavioral health in Alaska, provider self-care, alcohol use, medication management, developmental disorders, mood disorders, problems with sleep and eating, and trauma. I edited the first edition of the manual and am not only editing the second edition but writing chapters on topics such as wellness and prevention and the impact of climate change on mental health.
Paddling Iowa: 128 Outstanding Journeys by Canoe and Kayak
Often called the "Iowa Paddlers Hymnal," Nate Hoogeveen's book will tempt anyone to travel to Iowa and explore the beauty that land-bound visitors never see. We worked closely together on his second edition; I provided edits in PDF format and fell in love with Iowa's scenic rivers in the process.
The Dollars and Sense of Alzheimer's
Co-author Carrie Collins-Fadell, then the State Director of Public Policy for the Alzheimer's Association in Michigan, wrote, "Great job with this article. Thank you for all the help over the last two years. We were able to score some really good article placements because you helped us look so professional."
Breastfeeding and the Male Partner: Association between Male Attitudes and Breastfeeding Outcomes
Kristen Box's fascinating dissertation explores the importance of male partners' support on mothers' breastfeeding intentions, behaviors, and outcomes. She wrote, "You made the paper look so much better!! I love having your suggestions and comments throughout. It's really helpful having someone completely objective editing for me." As of 2013, all three articles in Kristen's thesis have been published.
Grant Writer and Editor
ANTHC proposals to a wide range of funders, e.g., the USDA Rural Development program, CDBG and ICDBG, and the Alaska Energy Authority
While working for ANTHC Environmental Health and Engineering, I collaborated with subject matter experts on areas such as engineering, environmental health, water quality, and climate change to write successful grant proposals. I carefully reviewed grant documents, obtained materials from SMEs, and developed proposals that represented their content and met all requirements.
